Can I use any Y adapter to connect a mic and headphones to my xbox 360 controller?

Hello,

Thanks for looking at my question. The microphone I bought for my xbox 360 is absolutely horrible in terms of volume output. I am thinking of buying a Y adapter, the bottom port on an xbox 360 controller is 2.5mm, the jacks for typical PC audio peripherals are sized 3.5mm. If I got a 2.5mm male to dual 3.5mm female Y adapter, would it accept a normal microphone and headphones?

My guess is mostly no.

In otherwords, if You Get one of those Y adapaters that’s labeled AUDIO IN / AUDIO OUT (MICROPHONE / SPEAKER) then yes, it should work.

Otherwise, I’m afraid you’d likely generate a horrible squelch similar to pointing two speakers towards each other.

An expensive work around is the Turtle brand headset … the low budget work around is a 2.5mm handsfree set from a Cell Phone. Lots of people got these for free and discarded or ignored in place of a bluetooth version.
